because you sound like you're not sure what you are doing.. I would suggest getting Photoshop Elements - at ~$700 CS2 is WAY too powerful and expensive for a novice.. it really is a professional program, and realistically - by the time you learn to use it - they'll probably be introducing a new version..

save your money - and get your chops up on Elements - then if you find it is not capable of doing all you need consider upgrading to CS2 (Elements used to offer an upgrade discount)

under selection, select inverse

change the mode to gray scale
i will take your link as example,1st select the horse by using pen tool or lasso tool,then copy it (control+c) and past it (control+v),go back to your background and make it gray.

if this is vista you are using (yeah?) - then there is one additional step that you may be missing.

you need to use a command window (--%26gt;Start, type 'cmd' and 'cmd.exe' should appear)

you should run this command window as administrator, so right click on cmd.exe and select ''run as administrator'' and agree to the usual security information.

when in the command window, type the following:

regsvr32 jscript.dll (then press enter)

you should receive a message box saying 'successful'

then type the following:

regsvr32 vbscript.dll (then enter)

if you get another 'successful' message box, then you should now be ready to run the installation.

When your working on a project in Photoshop, what file and compression do you save in? Ive heard that saving in Jpeg uses too much compression and ruins an image and is best used after a project is finished. Am I right using TIFF or should I use another file option??

Are you saving as an image to be used in something else? If you are, using either a TIFF or an EPS is your best option. They can easily be imported into other programs to be used in other projects.

If your not using the image in anything else, just leave it as a PSD. Its the easiest way to have your layers saved and everything still in tact.

Tiff or psd is the safest from quality saving perspective.
why not just save it as .psd until you are finished? then use .jpg. when you are finished. that's what i do and it is great plus it is readable by everyone.

When I'm working in Photoshop CS2 and want to use a filter, I go in and click the filter that I want to use. But when the filter window opens up, the window itself is too huge. The window is so large that the options that are towards the bottom of the window are not even visible. In addition, I can't even see the lower portion of my picture, and can't work on it. Yes, when I zoom out I can see the whole thing of course, but I want to be able to work up close. I tried resizing the window, but that didn't work. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Thanks.

Try increasing the resolution of your display, assuming your graphics card can support it.

Eg. You could be working in 1280x780, you should probaly change it to 1600x1260 or so. *Note, these dimensions are estimations, not exact.

Photoshop Fading Oval?

I did it before, but I forget how to do it again. Now I selected, contracted by 10 pixels, inversed, feathered by 10 pixels, and then hit the delete key, and get this result.

On the left is what I have in Photoshop, basically the fading concept, and the right is what comes out. You can see the ending point, when I intended it to perfectly fade-in.

Does anyone know how I can get basically the same fade effect, but have the edge of the oval fade into the background and to still not have an end line curve?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much!

Lets see, if I'm correct you want the frame to be less noticeable around the MMX picture. Here's my suggestion...

First put the MMX pic on the first layer do nothing with it except you gray scale I guess.

Then make a new layer and put your oval frame over it.

After that use the erase tool with a basic brush at 0% hardness at about 10 pixels.

Then go around the inner part of the oval frame and start erasing very lightly and you'll get it to blend nicely.

Make your selection, switch to quick mask mode, apply a gaussian blur, come out of quickmask and select inverse, go to edit, then fill with whatever colour is your background
You'll have to feather more than 10 pixels, it sounds like. To better see what your edge is like:

-Instead of using the standard 'feather' option, Make your oval selection, and then switch to 'quick mask' mode (hit the Q key)

-You can then see the selection (default makes the outside of the selection red) and can feather it using filter-%26gt;blur-%26gt;gaussian

-adjust the level of feather you want to get the edge to blend better.

-Once you get the effect you want, get out of quick mask by hitting the 'Q' key again.

Choose the colors that you want (ie black foreground and white background) and go into the filter gallery. From there, go into the ''Halftone pattern'' and make sure pattern type is on ''Dot'' from there, you can change the size of the dots and all works fine and dandy!

I have read several online tutorials and discussed with my friends, but could never get the point.

I do not use frames in photoshop only in image ready. I think you only need frames when you are creating an animation...Layers are pretty easy, they allow you to select and add effects to different parts of your artwork/image and alows you to move items infront or behind other elements. Photoshop 7 is really old!

I'm trying to make rounded corners on one of my pictures and on one of the tutorials I read it said that one of the steps were to ''Right click on the layer and select Blending Options'' this may seem dumb but i'm fairly new to photoshop so idk, but im not exactly sure where to right click on the picture. Ok you should have a palette on the screen (normally on the right side) with some tabs that say layers, channels, paths...

you want to make sure you are on the layers tab. Then you will see thumbnails of all your layers. You then choose the one you want, and right click on the thumbnail or the name of it. Blending options will then pop up.

Alternatively, use the menu bar and choose layer %26gt; layer style %26gt; blending options. Again you will have to make sure that you are working on the correct layer by making sure it is highlighted on the layers tab on the palette.

You can't view images saved in psd format outside of Photoshop. You'll have to save a copy in another format such as jpg, tif, gif or whatever format your other programs can see.

Me personaly I would just crack it using a key generator. I think I still have the ISO of my photoshop CS2 with the crack embedded on the disk. If you have messenger I could transfer it since it's up to a gig transfer now. Or I could try to upload the cracker to a site. Can't help you with illustrator never had a desire to use it. I only you Photoshop and Primier.

Where did you get your Photoshop from? Did you download it or did you get it on CD?

It seems that you're trying to install a lame pirate version in which case I suggest you find something better.

If you've downloaded it, maybe some files got lost on the way. Try downloading it again.

If you have a CD, install it directly from the CD.

It sounds like your Preferences may be corrupted. Here's what you need to do:

1. Click on your home folder and select your Library folder. There should be a folder called Preferences in there. Open it.

2. Locate a file called ''com.adobe.Photoshop.plist''. Drag it to your trash can.

3. Locate a file called ''com.apple.Safari.plist'' and drag it to the trash can.

4. Empty the trash can and start your machine.

This process will reset your Preferences and should stop both programmes from quitting. Hopefully, it solve the problem.

If Safari is still not working, I recommend that you download and install Firefox and use that browser instead.

Gonna have to be a litttttttle more specific than that. Mac OS version? Jaguar? Panther? Tiger? Leopard? Photoshop version? CS as in CS 8.0, or CS2 9.0/CS3 10.0?

Mac? PowerPC or Intel? Specs? You might try first off downloading any software updates... i.e. if you're running 10.4.0, download 10.4.11.

Another good idea, actually, is to check here.... http://discussions.info.apple.com ..... people who use the same software you're using can help you out. They're all people like you who use Macs, and have experience with your particular setup, because they use them every day.

VGA resolution problem with Adobe Photoshop 5.0?

Okay, so first I tried to install Adobe Photoshop 5.0 and got the ''This program required VGA resolution or higher'' error message. So I reset the screen resolution and restarted the photoshop. ''This program required VGA resolution or higher'' pops up again just as photoshop started to install.

Anybody know what I need to do? I reset the screen resolution as high as it would go, and I got the same error message again.

Well, I don't know how to solve the problem, but I might be able to give you a little insight, at least insomuch as that it appears to have nothing to do with what your screen resolution is set to, because ''VGA resolution'' is actually 640x480, which is to say it is the *lowest* resolution any computer will do these days, so I guaranty that it isn't a settings problem, because your computer's resolution is incapable of being lower than VGA...

The first thing I'd check would be to make sure that all your software and drivers are up-to-date (http://update.microsoft.com/ for Windows users) and also check with the company that manufactured your video card to see if there are any more up-to-date video card drivers that might not have been posted on Microsoft Update.

Check the vga card spec on the two systems, yours and the pc that the installation worked on. if possible set your vga resolution to that of the pc you were able to install on. if the card/monitor cant support the resolution required you might not br able to install. Also check whether the vga memory is shared or dedicated. if you know your systems' ram and when you check it by right clicking on my computer -%26gt; properties and its shows a figure less that what is installed then the vga memory is shared. You could try increasing how much memory is dediacted to graphics
